Dancehall is a Jamaican street dance that emerged from the evolution of reggae music over time.

The name Dancehall describes the music that emerged in Jamaica in the 1980's and also describes the dances that were improvised to this music. Dancehall developed in Jamaica and spread to the Antilles, Reunion, and Ile Maurice.

The dance began to appear in France in 1990. This dance originally emphasized the fluctuation of the chest and waist, and then slowly incorporated different other elements. Nowadays, Dancehall often incorporates elements of hiphop, jazz and African dance.
