This summer's festival originated from a scholar-like government official named Chu Yuan. He was a respectable and good man, but he finally fell out of favor in the emperor's court because he was jealous of his opponent's evil deeds.

Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, Chu Yuan plunged into the Miluo River in grief. Out of admiration for Chu Yuan, the local residents living by the Miluo River hurried aboard to look for him, and at the same time threw rice into the river to appease the dragon in the river.

Although they couldn't find Chu Yuan, their efforts are still remembered at the Dragon Boat Festival today.
