What's the difference between LCD TV and LED TV?

The difference between LED TV and LCD TV (here only represents CCFL cold light LCD TV) is mainly in backlight. The former uses LED diode to emit light, and the latter uses lamp tube to emit light, which makes the brightness of LED TV higher than that of traditional LCD TV, and the body is thinner and longer. Although the price of LED TV is higher than that of traditional LCD TV, the quality of LED TV is better in terms of image quality, energy saving and maintenance.

1. Introduction to LCD TV:

LCD (liquid crystal display for short) adopts a substance between solid and liquid, an organic compound with regular molecular arrangement, which is heated to a transparent liquid state and cooled to a turbid solid state of crystal particles.

The molecular structure of liquid crystal used in liquid crystal display is similar to a thin matchstick, so it is called nematic liquid crystal, and the liquid crystal display made of this liquid crystal is also called LCD. In LCD TV, a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal between two pieces of glass, and the picture is reproduced through the changes of molecular arrangement and twists and turns. The first liquid crystal display device in the world was manufactured by Sharp Corporation of Japan in the early 1970s, and it is called TN-LCD (twisted nematic) liquid crystal display.

In 1980s, STN-LCD (super twisted nematic) liquid crystal display appeared, and TFT-LCD (thin film transistor) liquid crystal display technology was developed, but the liquid crystal technology is still immature and difficult to popularize. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Japan mastered the production technology of STN-LCD and TFT-LCD, and the LCD industry began to develop rapidly.

LED TV is actually a kind of liquid crystal TV (LCD). The main difference from traditional LCD TV is that it uses different backlight, which brings many performance differences. LED TV adopts LED as backlight, which has advantages over traditional CCFL-backlit LCD TV in terms of thickness, image quality, life span, energy saving and environmental protection, and has become the recognized development direction of LCD TV in the industry.

Strictly speaking, LED TV refers to a TV set that completely uses LED (Light Emitting Diode) as an imaging device, which is generally used for low-precision display or outdoor large screen. At present, the strict name of LED TV usually referred to in Chinese mainland household appliances industry is "LED backlight LCD TV", which refers to LED backlight LCD TV, and it is also a kind of LCD. It replaces the traditional fluorescent tube with LED light source, which has better picture quality, longer theoretical life, more environmentally friendly manufacturing process and can make the LCD panel thinner.

With the development of science and technology, brighter and more colorful LEDs have been made, and LEDs have also been applied to TV imaging technology. LED is about the size of mung bean, so it was first used to make a big screen. Because the big screen is for the audience to watch from far away, you only need to gather a large number of LEDs together to make a big screen. In order to improve the picture quality of LCD TV, TV manufacturers began to use LED as the backlight of LCD TV. Compared with the traditional LCD TV with cathode fluorescent lamp as backlight, LED LCD TV can display more realistic colors. The dynamic adjustment of the picture can not only improve the color saturation, but also dynamically correct the brightness and contrast when displaying different pictures, thus achieving better picture quality.
