Write a letter to your pen pal about the cultural differences between China and the West.
Dear Tom:
How are you?
I will tell you how we greet people in China. When we meet others in the street, we usually don't say "hello". We said, "Have you had lunch/dinner?" Last week, an Iranian friend of mine, Saeed, whose landlord is from China, felt very uneasy and confused. Why did his landlord always ask him if he had eaten? He complained to me that the first few times he was asked this question, he felt that the landlord was kind enough to invite him to dinner. But after several times, he didn't receive any dinner invitation from the landlord. So, he was a little angry. He thought, if you don't want to invite me to dinner, why ask? When he told me this, I couldn't help laughing. This is definitely a culture shock. Knowing the truth, he also smiled.
Best wishes,
Annie
