Introduction of Menghuanglai Scenic Area in Xishuangbanna Prefecture

Mengjinglai is located in the territory of Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, in the border area of China and Myanmar, 5 kilometers away from Taoluo Border Crossing on the Kunluo Highway, which is the capital of the fourth special administrative region of the Shan State of Myanmar, and the famous tourist city of Xiaomengla. The clear Ta Lo River flows through the west side of the village, forming a natural border, and the opposite bank of the river is Myanmar, thus it is called "the first village in China and Myanmar". Mengjinglai is a typical Dai traditional village, adjacent to Myanmar, and the Shan border people in Myanmar have frequent exchanges and intermarriage, forming a rare phenomenon of mixed Dai-Shan residence. The scenic spot covers an area of 5.6 square kilometers, between which there are more than 100 acres of paddy fields, a number of fishponds, the idyllic scenery is real and natural, 58 pagodas are densely covered with forests, and the thousand-year-old Bodhi tree stands; the village is simple and elegant, and the Dai people are warm and hospitable, 110 Dai families in the village live in the original flavor, and they still preserve the traditional form of residence and way of life. Integrating the beliefs and customs of the soul, the village has Buddhist temples, pagodas, Bodhi trees and ancient springs, exuding the strong cultural characteristics of Southern Theravada Buddhism everywhere. The Dai villagers in the village still continue and preserve the ancient crafts of paper making, iron making, pottery making, sugar pressing and wine making handed down from their ancestors, which are the living folk crafts of the Dai people. In February 2010, Mengjinglai was evaluated as one of the first 50 rural tourism villages in Yunnan Province, and in January 2013, it was awarded the "China Dai Culture Protection and Inheritance Demonstration Base" by the China Culture Protection Foundation, In January 2013, it was awarded the honorary title of "China Dai Culture Protection and Inheritance Demonstration Base" and "China Cultural Tourism Demonstration Base" by China Culture Protection Foundation.
