What are the legends about Xishuangbanna?

The father of Baawu, the leader of ancient Xishuangbanna, was once the king of cattle. One day, Niu Wang's wife got pregnant because she ate the leftover coconut of Niu Wang, and later she gave birth to a child.

This fairy tale shows that Xishuangbanna has lived here since the primitive matriarchal clan society. 1570, Xuanwei Division, the local chief executive of the Ming Dynasty, divided the jurisdiction of Xishuangbanna into 12 "Banna" and Dai people named it "Xishuangbanna". Xishuangbanna means 12,000 fields in Dai language, Xishuang means 12 fields in Dai language and Banna means 1000 paddy fields in Dai language. In the past, when feudal lords calculated the territory of the Dai people, they divided administrative divisions by rice fields, so they got their name from the meaning of 12 lords in charge 12 rice fields.
