Will the calligraphy profession be the most promising career in the future?
Many people have taken calligraphy classes since childhood, or have a hobby in this area, and are proud to be able to write a handful of brushstrokes. Calligraphy can be mentioned as a major, many art candidates feel a little cold, that learning this profession in the future can only rely on selling words for a living. Looking at China's colleges and universities, the opening of a calligraphy major institutions in fact, but the scale of talent training is limited. Calligraphy major to learn what? What can I do in the future? What do you need to pay attention to when applying for the calligraphy program?
Calligraphy is not just about writing
In many people's minds, calligraphy is often equated with hobbies and personal grooming, but the calligraphy program is still relatively unknown. Although calligraphy in China has a long history of thousands of years, but calligraphy has become an independent enrollment program or after 2013.
Although calligraphy is an art discipline, it is not unique to art schools. At present, there are more than 80 colleges and universities in China in the undergraduate stage to open calligraphy major. One of the most attention of the candidates is the art school. In particular, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and other top art colleges and universities of calligraphy, so that many candidates do not hesitate to repeat the examination.
In addition, teacher training colleges and universities are also calligraphy enrollment, such as Beijing Normal University, Jiangsu Normal University and so on. Teacher training colleges and universities to open the calligraphy profession, and in recent years China's higher education and basic education stage of the calligraphy teaching talent is not unrelated to the strong demand.
In recent years, more and more other types of institutions have also opened calligraphy major, including the Central University of Finance and Economics and other financial institutions, as well as Xi'an Jiaotong University and other engineering universities. The professional enrollment institutions and enrollment are growing rapidly.
Setting up a pen, ink, paper and inkstone in your study, and letting your teacher teach you how to copy calligraphy in the classroom are probably familiar learning scenarios to most calligraphy enthusiasts. However, in the university, the teaching of calligraphy is much more than that. From the point of view of the training objectives, the professional aims to cultivate a wide range of professional knowledge of the calligraphy discipline, strong professional skills in calligraphy, a broader cultural vision and good overall quality and creative ability, capable of calligraphy, calligraphy theory research, calligraphy teaching and calligraphy art of comprehensive application of the work of practical senior specialists.
Xu Hai, director of the Department of Calligraphy, School of Chinese Painting, Central Academy of Fine Arts, introduced the process of learning calligraphy in the school, students should be under the guidance of teachers to systematically learn a variety of styles of calligraphy, in the requirements of professional skills in calligraphy is much higher than amateur learning. Moreover, calligraphy professional learning is not purely skill transfer, related theoretical knowledge, the foundation of traditional Chinese culture are included in the training system of calligraphy. One of the characteristics of the training of talents in the Calligraphy program of the university is the integration of calligraphy, painting and seal carving, with the highest proportion of calligraphy teaching, followed by seal carving teaching, and then Chinese painting teaching. Students have a broader adaptability after graduation and can choose their future development direction in a wider dimension.
Students majoring in Calligraphy at Beijing Normal University, in addition to the relevant specialized courses in calligraphy, also have to study various literature courses such as Chinese Character Studies, Ancient Chinese Language, Literature and Aesthetics, as well as some general courses in fine arts majors, such as computer art, and so on. Therefore, from the systematic, complete and depth and breadth of talent cultivation, the Calligraphy major is not comparable to the general amateur calligraphy study.
Employment does not rely on "selling words for a living"
Chen Yannan, a graduate student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts majoring in Calligraphy, dreams of the future as a professional calligrapher. Previously, he thought of other jobs to "support" their professional skills. And for calligraphy graduates, employment or even start a business is not difficult.
From the current employment situation of the calligraphy profession, the education industry is an important employment area for graduates of the profession. Xu Hai introduced, calligraphy in China has a deep mass foundation. With the national education department at all levels of Chinese traditional culture more and more attention, in all stages of education to popularize calligraphy teaching has become a general trend. From elementary school to university, there is a large talent gap of professional calligraphy teachers.
Many people have been exposed to calligraphy elective courses in primary and secondary schools, but at that time, most of the teachers were part-time language teachers or art teachers, which made it difficult to meet the demand for universal calligraphy education. The first time I saw this, I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school, and then I had to go back to the old school. The demand for calligraphy talents with specialized training at undergraduate level and above has become even more vigorous.
In addition to school education, amateur calligraphy teaching in the community has long had deep market roots. In particular, with the rise of the "nationalism fever" in recent years, more and more amateurs, from children to the elderly, are devoting themselves to the study of calligraphy. National universities and colleges of calligraphy talent training scale expansion, in turn, stimulate the demand for training before the examination, so that this market in recent years has also boomed, many calligraphy graduates to devote themselves to this field of entrepreneurship. Overall, the calligraphy profession in the coming period of time have good employment prospects.
Calligraphy graduate student Pang Zhonghua introduced, not only in the field of education, his classmates after graduation to do what they have, there are to go to the Federation of Literature, there are to go to the newspaper and media, there are advertisement planners, there are to do the design. From the point of view of employment prospects, calligraphy and a lot of general liberal arts or art majors are not much different, is the employment of adaptable discipline. Various types of media publishing departments, museums and other cultural departments, and even general enterprises and institutions, are active in calligraphy graduates.
Xu Hai believes that although the calligraphy major undergraduate employment is not difficult, but in the case of conditions, undergraduate graduates continue to study is still necessary. Calligraphy is an art, undergraduate training favors the basics, want to improve the level of professionalism, but also a longer period of systematic study. Central Academy of Fine Arts graduate student Su Zhenyu said that in the postgraduate stage, students can choose a certain style system as a topic of in-depth study, more in-depth study of calligraphy theory, which is beneficial to the future career development.
The calligraphy profession, repeat is not a bad thing
As an art profession, the calligraphy candidates should be prepared for the professional test. Generally speaking, calligraphy professional art test is divided into calligraphy copy, calligraphy creation of two parts, some institutions will also test calligraphy theory related knowledge.
The Central Academy of Fine Arts, for example, in recent years, the school of calligraphy, calligraphy copying is divided into orthography (regular, official, seal script, etc.) copying, cursive copying, calligraphy creation is also divided into orthography creation, cursive creation. Candidates applying for the specialization should have a good foundation of the book, with a strong ability to create, and the score on the gap is often the creation of cursive.
Before applying for the examination, candidates should first understand the characteristics of the study and the characteristics of the test, it is best to get in touch with the students to learn from the experience of the examination. The first thing you need to do is to get a good understanding of the subject matter. The teacher of the pre-test class may come from the same specialty of the relevant institutions, and can provide more targeted counseling. In the pre-test class with like-minded students to study together, can create a good learning atmosphere, compare each other, promote each other, this is the preparation for the calligraphy profession of the correct rhythm, the effect is far better than their own "closed-door car".
Xu Hai believes that, although the opening of the calligraphy major institutions, candidates have a lot of choices, but for the voluntary target positioning for the country's first-class art school candidates, but also have more psychological preparation, including the spirit of failure. For such candidates, the art examination is not a shortcut, the choice to repeat is not necessarily a bad thing. In the arts, repeaters tend to be more comfortable with their studies and have a better chance of developing a higher artistic standard than freshly enrolled candidates. High school cultural knowledge is limited, but the polishing of skills, the understanding of art is not "capped". Repeated study of cultural subjects may only bring about an increase in scores, while repeated training of artistic skills brings about an increase in the level of substance. The artwork accumulated by the candidates in the repetition is by no means useless, and it will not be wasted in the future university studies.
Pang Zhonghua also believes that the choice of calligraphy, it is best not to take a "shortcut to get a diploma" mentality. Whether or not there is a strong interest, whether or not consciously study hard, determines the learner in the calligraphy of this road will write what kind of life.
