In rural Shaanxi, the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month is the Lunar New Year, and the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month is called "off-year". Some places in rural areas are called "offering sacrifices to stoves", that is, offering sacrifices to the "kitchen god" who dominates good and bad luck in order to have ample food and clothing. Shaanxi folk culture is rich and unique, mainly manifested in the long dialect history, ingenious paper-cutting, exquisite clay sculpture skills, cheerful waist drums, soft or rigid folk songs, profound shadow play and unique charm of social fire. Shaanxi is one of the birthplaces of Chinese culture, and its rich historical background has given birth to colorful folk culture dialects.
