How is the progress of printing in China?
China began to engrave Buddhist scriptures in the middle and late Tang Dynasty. In the late Tang and Five Dynasties, there were folk books engraved and printed, and in the late Tang Dynasty, Changxing (930~933) also engraved nine classics. But the books that most scholars read are still manuscripts. Until the Northern Song Dynasty, the folk engraving industry became more popular, all kinds of engraving books became more popular, and movable type printing was invented. Due to the progress of printing, a large number of books are printed, and works are easy to circulate and concentrate, which greatly broadens the horizons of scholars and improves their interest in writing books. At that time, the three secret halls in the central government, as well as state schools, county schools and folk academies, had thousands of books. Private books, such as Song, Ye Mengde and Chao, have reached tens of thousands, and they like to lend them to others. Scholars in Song Dynasty generally have more historical and cultural knowledge than the previous generation, and their private works are far more than the previous generation. Many of them are masterpieces with dozens or hundreds of volumes. This is not only determined by the development of printing industry, but also the performance of the overall upsurge of feudal culture at that time.
