Introduction of tension-free hernia repair

The concept of tension-free hernia repair was first put forward by American doctor Lichtenstein in 1986. This repair uses artificial biomaterials as patches to strengthen the posterior wall of inguinal canal. This method overcomes the interference of traditional surgery (that is, patch-free suture repair) to normal anatomical structure, and has distinct layers. After repair, the surrounding tissues have no tension, so it is named "tension-free hernia repair". At present, there are tension-free hernia repair with plain film and tension-free hernia repair with mesh plug.
