How to measure blood pressure?

Blood pressure is measured by a sphygmomanometer with a mercury column. Now there are electronic sphygmomanometers that can read directly. Check whether the sphygmomanometer is damaged before measurement. First of all, the mercury in the mercury column sphygmomanometer must be sufficient, the mercury convex surface in the calibration tube should be just at the scale "0", and the scale must be vertical. It is also necessary to observe whether the mercury overflows. If you use an electronic sphygmomanometer, the starting point of the pointer should be at "0", and you should also check whether the power supply is sufficient. It is generally not recommended to use wrist or finger cuff electronic sphygmomanometer.

When measuring, it is advisable to sit in a relaxed posture. The upper arm of the examinee should be bare, the palm of his hand should be stretched horizontally, the elbow should be flush with the heart, and his blood pressure can be measured when he lies down.

Take 1 ~ 2 deep breaths in the chair first to stabilize your mood. Then wrap the cuff around the right upper arm. The middle of the balloon just presses the brachial artery, and the lower edge of the balloon should be 2.5 cm above the elbow. At this time, the tightness of the cuff can reach about 1 ~ 2 fingers.

Secondly, air is filled into the cuff to compress the artery to stop the blood flow. From the time when the pulse disappears, continue to pressurize to make the mercury column rise by 30 mm Hg.

Place the stethoscope on the brachial artery at the elbow fossa under the cuff. While listening to the pulse, relax the cuff pressure, and the rate of relaxing the cuff pressure is about 2 ~ 3 mm Hg per second.

When the stethoscope begins to hear the sound of blood flowing, the value on the sphygmomanometer is "systolic blood pressure".

Continue to release the air in the cuff, and the sound heard in the stethoscope will gradually weaken and finally disappear completely. At this time, the value recorded on the sphygmomanometer is "diastolic pressure".

After the measurement, we should pay attention to record the date, time, room temperature, measurement position and position, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure together.
