Six basic techniques of clay sculpture

The basic techniques of clay sculpture are kneading, kneading, kneading, rolling, sticking and digging. Clay sculpture has a long history and is an ancient and common folk art in China. It is made of clay, shaped by hand or tools, or plain or colorful, with figures, animals and utensils as the main parts.

Artists use clay sculpture to make a variety of works in the process of creation, and shape clay sculpture in different ways:

1, hollow molding method: in order to stabilize the center of gravity and save materials, the hollow molding method is completely solid without considering the thickness of the mud blank at first. When the outside is a little harder, cut it into pieces, dig the inside into a slightly hollow shape, and repair it with mud in some places.

2. Mud board molding method: Mud board method is to connect or cut out your own imaginary shapes with mud boards of different thicknesses, and use various clay sculpture techniques to make point, line, surface and texture effects for decoration.

3. Mud strip method: Mud strip method is to rub the mud into long strips by hand, and then enclose the mud strips to make it a utensil. Don't press too much when making, try to keep all kinds of mud strips.

4. Hand-kneading method: Hand-kneading method is the simplest and most practical method in clay sculpture. You can use the whole piece of mud to shape the image, and then use your hands to pull, pinch, knead, roll, press, insert, connect and paste to depict the part.
