Grapes are native to western Asia and are cultivated all over the world, with about 95% of the world's grapes concentrated in the northern hemisphere, and China's main producing areas are Xiaoxian, Anhui, Xinjiang's Turpan, Hotan, Shandong's Yantai, Hebei's Zhangjiakou, Xuanhua, Changli, Liaoning's Dalian, Xiongyue, Shenyang, and Henan's Lumiao Township, Minquan, Yifeng, and other places.
The grape is a woody vine. Branchlets terete, longitudinally ribbed, glabrous or sparsely pilose. The tendrils are 2-forked and branched, interrupted at 2-node intervals and opposite the leaves. Leaves ovate-orbicular, conspicuously 3-5-lobed or mesophyllous, 7-18 cm long, 6-16 cm wide, middle lobe apically acute, lobes often connivent, base often constricted, notch narrow, occasionally broad, base y cordate, basal notch concavely rounded, often connivent on both sides, margins 22-27-serrate, teeth deep and coarse, not neat, teeth acute, green above, light green below, glabrous or sparsely pilose; basal veins 5 out, midvein with 4-5 pairs of lateral veins, reticulate veins inconspicuously prominent; petiole 4-9 cm long, several glabrous; stipules caducous.
Grape panicle dense or sparse, many-flowered, opposite leaves, basal branches developed, 10-20 cm long, peduncle 2-4 cm long, several glabrous or sparsely arachnid tomentose; pedicel 1.5-2.5 mm long, glabrous; buds obovate-orbicular, 2-3 mm high, apical tip subrounded; calyx shallowly saucer-shaped, with undulating margins, outside glabrous; petals 5, glued off in a cap-like fashion; Stamens 5, filaments filiform, 0.6-1 mm long, anthers yellow, ovoid, 0.4-0.8 mm long, conspicuously short and abortive or completely degenerate in female flowers; disk well developed, 5-lobed; pistil 1, completely degenerate in male flowers, ovary ovoid, style short, stigma enlarged. Fruit globose or ellipsoid, 1.5-2 cm in diam.; seeds obovate-ellipsoid, apex short and suborbicular, base shortly beaked, hilum ellipsoid in the middle of the seed dorsal surface, seed ridges slightly protruding, mid-ribbed ridges protruding in the ventral surface, both sides of the pits broadly furrowed, reaching upward to the seed 1/4 of the way up. Flowering April-May, fruiting August-September.
