China's Population Status and Future Trends

On the basis of maintaining a high level of population, the quality of population development has been improving.

From a quantitative point of view, China's total population has remained above 1.4 billion since 2019 and will remain at a high level in the future. Population development depends on both quantity and quality. China's main health indicators are among the top of middle- and high-income countries, and the trend continues to improve.

On the basis of the full universalization and continuous consolidation of compulsory education, China has also achieved leapfrog development in high school education, higher education and preschool education, and the overall scientific and cultural literacy of the population has continued to improve. The people's conscientiousness in practicing socialist core values and inheriting the excellent traditional Chinese culture has been rising, and the national moral standard, civilization, awareness of the rule of law, and sense of integrity have been increasing.

Response to the New Normal of Population Development

One is to build a family support policy. Efforts are being made to strengthen social policies that are more conducive to the overall development of the family, tilting more toward the family as a whole in the areas of fertility policy, vacation policy, and housing policy, so as to increase the reproduction capacity of the family's population and to protect and enhance the family's role as a basic support for society.

The second is to improve the old-age service system. Emphasize the important role of the family in healthy aging, strengthen the supportive capacity of community-based home care services, realize the radiation function of institutions, establish a positive incentive policy system for a healthy aging service system, and set up the ideology of healthy aging in the whole society.

Third, improve the childcare service system. To expand the size of the universal childcare market, increase the supply of quality and reliable childcare services that are urgently needed by the public, encourage localities to innovate the "childcare integration" model, and optimize and upgrade the market for children's products.
