Yang-style Tai Ji Chuan is a new school in Tai Ji Chuan, which is simplified and improved by Yang Luchan on the basis of Chen-style Tai Ji Chuan.

Chen Tai Ji Chuan originated from Chen in Chenjiagou, wen county, Henan Province in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. Based on the ancestral boxing, combined with the theory of Taiji Yin and Yang, and referring to the theory of meridians of traditional Chinese medicine, he created a set of Tai Ji Chuan with a combination of Yin and Yang and a combination of rigidity and flexibility. The characteristics of Chen style are: tortuous, loose and elastic; Fast and slow, storage and development change mutually.

Yang-style Tai Ji Chuan was studied by Yang Luchan, a native of Yongnian, Hebei Province, with Chen Changxing, the 14th grandson of Chen. When Yang Luchan gave boxing in Beijing, most of his disciples were nobles of Baylor, who lived a luxurious and sickly life and could not bear hardships. Considering the physical quality and health care needs of these people, Yang Luchan simplified some difficult acrobatics in Tai Chi that He Chuan learned, making his posture simpler, his movements softer and easier to practice, which is not only suitable for people wearing robes and braids to practice, but also beneficial to fitness. Yang-style Tai Ji Chuan has been modified by his son and grandson, forming two routines: big and small. It is characterized by softness, generosity, smoothness, rigidity, concealment, lightness and heaviness.
