Looking for the Ancient Hakka Stories of Heyuan (3)
There is a beautiful legend about Huarong Bridge in the ancient town of Crocodile Lake. According to legend, there is an ugly girl who collects osmanthus flowers in Guishan for a living. One day, she went to town to sell osmanthus medicine. It happened that the emperor sent someone to set up a platform by the lake to choose a concubine. The spectators were crowded, and the girl squeezed into the crowd to watch, but she was accidentally squeezed into the water. Strangely, when she was rescued, she became like a hibiscus flower, which surprised everyone and was elected to the palace on the spot. From then on, the bridge on this lake was called Huarong Bridge (also called Hualong Bridge).
