Characteristics of Manchu folk houses
Pocket room, word kang, chimney seat on the ground vividly tells the life characteristics of Manchu people. Pocket room means that most of the three rooms are located in the easternmost part, one is located in the south, or five are located in the second room in the east. The whole house is shaped like a pocket, so it is called "pocket room". The door is called "outhouse" and "main room"; Xifu is also called "Wu Shang", and Wu Shangfu has "∏"-shaped adobe kang on the south, west and north, which is called "Wan Zi Kang". Xikang is the place where Manchu families put their ancestors' boxes, and no one is allowed to sit. The fire kang is the main heating equipment of Manchu dwellings (there are fire fields and fire walls in the palace), and the East House is a junior residence; When the Han people in the north build houses, they usually erect chimneys on the roof. Manchu people, on the other hand, set chimneys on the west side of the house or on the ground behind the house and connected them with cross flues. This is also called "cross-sea chimney"
The windows in the south are large and concise, which is beneficial to the lighting and warmth of the house.
