Characteristics of Qufu Kai Wood Carving

The traditional products of Qufu Kaidiao are crutches and wishful thinking. Mukaimu is hard and elastic, golden in color, and will not break when carved into sticks; The carver is free and exquisite, and the pattern is as continuous as silk. Carved walking sticks and wishful thinking have always been Confucius' tribute to the emperor. In the seventeenth year of Guangxu, the birthday gift given to Empress Dowager Cixi by Shandong Governor was a longevity stick and two Qufu sculptures. The longevity stick is engraved with Bailong playing beads, which is exquisite and delicate; Ruyi carved eight immortals to celebrate his birthday, and the immortals were different and lifelike, which was called stunts by the Western Empress Dowager. Before liberation, Qufu Ruyi and his regular script walking stick won prizes at Panama Expo.

After liberation, the government organized old artists to set up Qufu County Arts and Crafts Factory, which mainly used regular script carving. In addition to carving walking sticks and longevity sticks, new varieties such as Confucius, Buddha statues, ladies and pen holders have been added, which have won praise in previous national arts and crafts exhibitions.

Yan Jingxin, a famous old sculptor handed down from generation to generation, excels in craftsmanship and uses the natural form of Mukaigen to carve a magnificent statue of Confucius. This one-meter-high statue won the praise of Hong Kong art circles in the 198 1 Hong Kong Shandong Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Popular newspaper and Wen Wei Po published photos one after another and spoke highly of them. At present, carving crafts have become a favorite tourist souvenir for tourists at home and abroad.
