Sixth grade Language Unit 2 Composition Tianjin's Folkways and Customs
As the saying goes, there are different styles in a hundred miles and different customs in a thousand miles. Every place has different customs, but in my eyes, my grandmother's New Year's Eve and the first day of the year is the most unique style. Grandma's home is in a village in Weiyuan County, I seldom spend New Year's Eve there, but whenever I go there, Grandma will tell me the essential local New Year's Eve customs.
The last day of the lunar month is New Year's Eve. Usually on the night before New Year's Eve, people go to bed earlier and sleep more soundly. Thinking about the reunion dinner tomorrow and the Spring Festival gala at night, people are more or less excited, but they go to bed early. Grandma told me that people in their village love to sleep, and they are afraid that they won't be able to stay up until twelve o'clock tomorrow, so they go to bed early.
In the morning, people look especially energetic. After washing their faces and rinsing their mouths, they began to prepare breakfast. On this day, breakfast was fixed and had to be soup dumplings. This soup dumplings must also be home-made, if it is the frozen soup dumplings in the supermarket, there is no good meaning in it.
After breakfast, everyone marched to the bazaar village people, three pairs, five groups of shopping. The children could not care less about the pain of walking long distance feet, an effort to pick a variety of fireworks, but also kept shouting happily: "yeah, yeah! Today you can set off firecrackers." Adults are buying some essential New Year's goods: new clothes, door prizes. The money in their pockets are pulled out again and again. The old people also hold their children, picking out sweaters with ease. It's not until midday that they go home for dinner.
This lunch is also special, can be said to be rotating lunch. In fact, it started on the 26th of Lunar New Year and will not end until the 6th of the first month. Today it's the fourth uncle's house, tomorrow it's the third grandfather's house. Every family in the village gets a turn, and no one loses out. The dishes vary and can be described as delicious. In addition to big fish and meat, chicken and duck, there are a few specialties: sausage, bacon, and roasted white. These few dishes are also available in every home.
To the evening, they went back to their families to have a reunion dinner. Families happily and harmoniously do in front of the TV, while eating the reunion dinner, watching the Spring Festival gala, while talking about the happy things of the year. Twelve o'clock is the time to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new. The countryside is not as colorful as the city fireworks, but there are "crackling" firecrackers, like thunder, deafening. I think: "New Year's Eve" must have been scared and fled a long time ago.
People will go into their first dream of the new year after the twelve o'clock vigil.
Grandma's place has a special saying: what you do on the first day of the year is what you will do on every day of the new year. So on this day, people wear new clothes, eat good food, do not smoke, do not drink, do not play cards, do not stay up late, do not do hard work, and cannot cry. You can see people's desire for a better life in the new year. It also made my crybaby sister suffer a lot. She accidentally fell down and wanted to cry out loud, but had to hold it in with all her might so that the tears wouldn't come out, and had to endure the pain. Not being able to vent her anger by crying, isn't that adding to the pain? On top of that, the people there had to burn incense and worship Buddha. Since this village is located at the foot of the Two Thumb Mountain, the whole village comes to the Two Thumb Mountain monastery in an endless stream to burn incense and worship the Buddha, hoping that the whole family will be happy and well in the new year.
In the blink of an eye, after the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, the flavor of the Spring Festival gradually faded, and people's lives returned to normal. Children are going to school, adults are going to work, retired people are farming again, and there is harmony.
