The most important characteristic of the traditional Chinese farming economy is the self-sufficient feudal and natural small peasant economy. There was no need for markets and commodity exchanges, and self-sufficient production was carried out on a family basis to meet one's survival needs, i.e., what we call male farming and female weaving, which had a great deal of closure and bound the farmers to the land, and the productive forces could not develop in a significant way, so that after nearly 2,000 years of feudalism in China, there has been no great leap in the productive forces in essence.

The rebellious small peasant ideology is the basis for the implementation of Confucianism and the breeding ground for the cult of the individual. It is also the economic basis for the Qing Dynasty's closed-door policy - because self-sufficiency does not require communication with the outside world. The impact of two thousand years of agrarian economy on Chinese culture was enormous, and almost everything that happened next had something to do with it. Even after the founding of the country, that unprecedented worship of state leaders like Mao Zedong was the downside of thousands of years of small peasant thinking: it was easy to worship state leaders as if they were emperors in feudal times. The long history of Confucianism and the suppression of the small peasant economy prevented the people of that time from realizing democracy. People were also generally not open-minded. A planned economy is to some extent similar to a small peasant economy in that both suppress productive forces and negate the role of the market.

Even now, twenty years after the reform and opening up, only a few coastal provinces are really rich, and people in the interior of the country are still suffering from the poison of this closed mind.
