Grey plastic sculpture, commonly known as "grey batch", is a traditional folk art in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and one of the national intangible cultural heritages. Gray plastic modeling technology is represented by relief and semi-relief. Presented in three-dimensional and semi-three-dimensional forms, the works have a strong three-dimensional sense and rich modeling levels, reflecting a strong folk decoration style.

The theme of gray sculpture is very rich, with a large number of animals and plants as the theme, and the auspicious connotation is expressed by homophonic means. Moreover, there are a lot of natural and human landscape themes in the gray sculptures, such as the Eight Scenes of Yangcheng in Qing Dynasty. In addition, there are a large number of works with historical stories and folklore as their themes, such as "Taoyuan Jieyi", "Zhang Song sees Meng De's new book" and "Legend of the White Snake" in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The main materials used in gray plastic are quicklime, paper reinforcement, rice straw, mineral pigments, steel nails and steel wires, and most of them are acid-resistant, alkali-resistant and temperature-resistant materials, which strengthens the firmness of the sculpture.
