Architectural Style of the North Building of Nanjing University

The North Building of Nanjing University was built in 19 17, designed by American architect A.G.Small, with brick and wood structure, two floors above ground and 1 floor underground, with a construction area of 3,473 square meters. Born in the era of fierce collision and integration of Chinese and western civilizations, we can still feel the pulse of that era from the appearance and style.

The building is designed in the form of China traditional architecture, and at the same time, it combines the western architectural style: there is a five-story square tower in the middle, which divides the whole building into two symmetrical halves; The top of the tower is a cross ridge, which is actually a variant of the western bell tower; This building is made of bricks of Ming Dynasty city walls.
