What material were the earliest denture beds made of?
Gold Since 700 BC, Etruscan craftsmen have continued to produce partial dentures for dental bridges that are of such good quality that they can be worn while eating. Some could be removed for cleaning, while others were permanently fixed to the original teeth that still existed. In the latter case, it was traditional to weld together wide gold hoops, and the tooth replacements were held in place by a nail to one gold hoop, which was then fixed to the natural teeth. These gold hoops tightly cover the entire bed of the teeth, keeping them free from wear and tear, while the denture itself rests on the real teeth on either side rather than on the bed of the teeth.
