How exactly does acupuncture navigate for tumor chemotherapy?

Huang Jinchang's team from the Department of Acupuncture and Minimally Invasive Oncology of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine found that the traditional acupuncture therapy in China can focus on the navigation of tumor chemotherapy drugs, which is expected to benefit tumor patients. The results were published online in the international academic journal Frontier of Oncology.

In this study, we investigated whether acupuncture around tumor can affect the concentration distribution of paclitaxel in mice with triple negative breast cancer, and further observed the changes of microvessels and microenvironment of related tumors at the molecular level. The results show that electroacupuncture combined with paclitaxel can promote the enrichment of local drug concentration by regulating tumor microvessels and microenvironment 2 hours after intervention.

Huang Jinchang introduced that in the research direction of acupuncture combined with medicine, the team has carried out clinical work such as acupuncture combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy for low rectal cancer, acupuncture combined with chemotherapy for lung cancer and acupuncture combined with chemotherapy for refractory ovarian cancer, and it has progressed smoothly.

According to reports, acupuncture, as an important part of TCM therapy, has been used in China for thousands of years, and has been accepted by many countries in the world. As one of the important non-drug therapies, acupuncture is widely used in tumor treatment.
