The eight virtues targeted by this project: loyalty, filial piety, sincerity, faith, propriety, righteousness, honesty and shame, are intended to take over the traditional Chinese virtues and give them new connotations, reflecting the new value of national vitality. During the 10 years of experimentation and practice in the education of "Chinese Virtues", through the determination of the system of virtues and the preparation of teaching materials, it has been gradually found that these eight virtues are an important basis for constructing the system of virtues in today's schools, which are not only the traditional Chinese virtues that have been handed down from generation to generation and continuously created, updated and developed by the Chinese nation over the past 5,000 years, but also the traditional Chinese virtues that are the basis for the present-day life of the society. It is not only the traditional Chinese virtues that have been passed down from generation to generation for 5,000 years; it is also the national spirit that permeates the life of today's society, in the "student code" of primary and secondary schools, in the citizen's covenant, in the professional ethics of all walks of life, and in the way of governing the family, the way of business, the way of governing the country.
