What are the types, advantages and disadvantages of gearboxes?

Gearboxes can be roughly divided into manual gearboxes and automatic gearboxes. The advantages of manual gearbox are simple structure, low manufacturing cost and maintenance cost, and fuel saving. The disadvantage is that the operation is cumbersome. The advantages of automatic transmission are simple and labor-saving operation and improved driving comfort. Disadvantages are high price and higher fuel consumption than manual gearbox.

Automatic transmission can be subdivided into hydro-mechanical automatic transmission (AT), continuously variable transmission (CVT), power shift (DCT) and automatic clutch transmission (AMT).

1. Hydromechanical automatic transmission

Its advantages are simple operation, automatic speed change and torque change according to road conditions, high reliability and mature technology, which can effectively avoid engine overspeed and overload. The disadvantage is that the model equipped with at gearbox has complex structure, high precision, troublesome maintenance, low transmission efficiency, high fuel consumption and high price.

2. Continuously variable transmission

Its main advantages are ultra-fast shifting speed, high bearing capacity, high transmission efficiency and good fuel economy. The disadvantages are precise structure, complex manufacturing process, poor reliability, serious low-speed retreat and very poor driving experience.

4. Automatic clutch transmission

Its advantages are high transmission efficiency, compact structure, low cost, easy manufacture, reliable operation and convenient operation. Disadvantages are strong sense of frustration during shifting, poor comfort during shifting and power interruption during shifting, which makes the acceleration performance during shifting poor.
