What are the reasons for the emergence and development of folk customs?

Economic factors: Marx believes that the economic base determines the superstructure. As a cultural thing, folk custom is first restricted by the economic base, that is, the level of social productivity.

Political factors: after entering the class society, folk customs are influenced by political factors. In order to achieve the goal of rule, the exploiting class uses backward folk customs to fool the people on the one hand, and maintains its rule by changing the original folk customs by coercive means on the other.

Religious factors: the emergence of folk customs is also influenced by religious factors. In real life, many folk customs have evolved from primitive religious ceremonies. For example, the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival of the Han nationality all originated from ancient sacrificial activities. Influenced by Islam, Hui and Uygur people have the custom of fasting pork.

Geographical factors: Folk customs are deeply influenced by geographical environment. Since ancient times, there has been a saying that "there are different winds in ten miles and different customs in a hundred miles". Different natural conditions lead to different modes of production and lifestyles. For example, there are great differences between nomadic people in the north and farming people in the south in terms of residence, diet, clothing, marriage, funeral and transportation.
