Prospect of China Exegetics Research

China's traditional exegetics began in the pre-Qin period, the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The most fundamental reason for the prosperity of exegetics is that language changes with the development of society. The ancient words, which later generations don't understand, need to be explained, and the dialects are different, or the words are given new meanings in the meaning connotation, which also needs to be explained, so exegesis is produced.

Judging from the development history of exegetics, the prosperity of exegetics was a peak in Han Dynasty and a peak in Qing Dynasty. The exegetical works and classic annotations of Han scholars laid the foundation for the all-round development of exegetics. The prosperity of exegetics in Han Dynasty and the intensification of language changes have much to do with the spread of ancient China classics. Exegetics in Qing Dynasty developed into a theoretical and methodological language discipline, which was closely related to the achievements of Confucian classics, historical research and ancient phonology. In modern times, under the influence of linguistics and grammar, scholars have made new achievements in theory, research methods and research scope, changed the old habits of sticking to ancient religion, sticking to written forms and emphasizing ancient and modern times, and created new methods.

Exegetics plays an important role in explaining ancient books, understanding ancient science and culture, studying the history of language development, collating ancient books and compiling dictionaries. In the future, exegetics will develop in the direction of establishing a scientific system of Chinese semantics from both theory and practice. The development of theory will provide scientific basis for lexicology and lexicography. The concrete work is to summarize the achievements of predecessors, absorb the experience of predecessors' research and the theory of foreign language word meaning research, study various phenomena of word meaning development in connection with ancient and modern times, dialects and their respective sequences, find out the general rules, and help Chinese teaching and dictionary compilation. In addition, according to the phonological systems of different times in ancient and modern times, the research on the relationship between words started from the correlation of sound and meaning, and further developed into a comprehensive study of word families. The completion of this work will add new and important contents to the development history of China.
