How many days does it take to go to Japan by boat and what are the procedures?

A) Applicant's application procedures at the place of origin

Applicant sends the following various documents and travel documents to the Japanese Embassy in the place of origin for approval after collecting them.

①Application for admission

②Application form (the form designated by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General for student visas)

③A photocopy of the graduation certificate

④A guarantor's letter of assurances (known as a "body money guarantee", the first guarantees the applicant's living expenses in Japan, and the second guarantees the applicant's expenses for his return to his home country).

5) Guarantor's ID card (if the guarantor is a Japanese national, he/she must submit a local government-issued certificate of residence; if the guarantor is a foreigner residing in Japan, he/she must submit a photocopy of his/her Certificate of Alien Registration).

6) Proof of the guarantor's income (tax certificate issued by the tax office or service organization)

7) Two photos (recent, bareheaded photo of the applicant)

8) Applicant's passport or a valid travel document

On receipt of the applicant's documents, the Embassy or Consulate General of Japan will ask the applicant to provide additional documents if there are any deficiencies (e.g., a letter of guarantee), and then submit a letter of justification from the guarantor. If the Embassy or Consulate of Japan receives the applicant's documents and considers them insufficient, it will ask for additional documents (e.g., requesting the guarantor's "Letter of Guarantee"). If all goes well, the embassy or consulate staff will inform the applicant how long it will take for the approval.

When the approval is complete and the visa is granted, the Embassy or Consulate will notify the applicant to go to the Visa Section to apply for the visa.

(2) The applicant can appoint a guarantor to handle the application procedure in Japan

The applicant can appoint a guarantor to handle the visa application procedure in Japan. Since the Immigration Bureau is responsible for approving visas for foreign students, the Japanese embassies and consulates abroad receive the documents and information from the applicant and send them back to the Immigration Bureau for examination, and then notify the embassies and consulates of the results. By having the guarantor act as a representative and handle the application directly in Japan, it reduces the need for official documents in one sense.

The documents and certificates required for a guarantor to apply for an entry visa on behalf of the guarantor in Japan are similar to those in (1), and you can go to the Immigration Bureau's Inspection Section to apply for an entry visa as long as you have all of the certificates and documents from (1) to (7) (the travel document of the applicant in (8) is not required at this time).

If everything is fine, the Immigration Bureau will issue a "Certificate of Completion of Preliminary Examination" to the guarantor of the applicant after two to three weeks. The guarantor sends it back to the applicant. The applicant, along with the travel documents and photographs, will go to the local Japanese embassy or consulate, fill out the designated visa application form, submit it to the Visa Section, and receive a visa instantly.
