On March 2, 2023, Zhuji Lantern Festival, there was a dragon lantern in Pingyang Village, Ma Jian Town.

Dragon lantern is one of the biggest traditional folk cultural activities in the first month. Legend has it that dragons can sow clouds and rain, eliminate disasters and reduce happiness, symbolizing good luck, so it has become a custom in all parts of the country to dance dragons to pray for a safe harvest. People greet lanterns to show that they can drive away evil spirits, dispel plagues and pray for blessings. Generally, lights are lit on the eighth day of the first lunar month and scattered after the Lantern Festival.

In Dongyang dialect, "Deng" and "Ding" are homophonic. In the past, every household had a able-bodied man, a bench and a lantern. The benches of each household are connected, lanterns are pressed, and a dragon with a dragon head is added to form a long bench dragon, which is named "Bridge Lamp".

Introduction of Lantern Festival:

Lantern Festival is one of the traditional festivals in China, Chinese character cultural circle and overseas Chinese. Lantern Festival mainly includes a series of traditional folk activities, such as watching lanterns, eating glutinous rice balls, solve riddles on the lanterns and setting off fireworks.

In addition, traditional folk performances such as Youlong lanterns, lion dancing, walking on stilts, boating, yangko and playing Taiping drums have been added to the Lantern Festival in many places. In June 2008, the Lantern Festival was selected as the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
