What is the development trend of container industry?

Rapid growth in port container throughput

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications data, China's container throughput in ports above designated size grew year by year from 2016 to 2021, reaching 264.3 million TEU in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%; in January 2021, the national container throughput in ports above designated size was 23.77 million TEU, an increase of 13.2% year-on-year.

Industry Development Trend Analysis

Currently, the domestic railroads, ports and harbors account for a small percentage of the container volume, compared with the level of developed countries there is still a large gap. Overall, the current domestic container transportation market still has a large space for growth, container sea-railway intermodal transportation, international railroad intermodal transportation is expected to remain strong growth trend.

In addition, with the development of the domestic economy as well as the promotion and development of container logistics, domestic trade container throughput occupies a larger and larger proportion of the major domestic ports. As "internal circulation" and "expanding domestic demand" are the main directions of China's economic transformation, domestic container transportation will usher in greater development.
