What is the prospect of raising pigs in rural areas now? What problems should we pay attention to?

First, the prospect of raising pigs in rural areas is still relatively good.

1. On the positive side, due to the rapid increase in pig prices this year and the continuous decrease in the supply of live pigs, relevant departments have introduced many measures to restore and increase the production capacity of live pigs. For example, the ban on raising pigs in rural areas has been relaxed, the development of large-scale aquaculture has been encouraged, and farmers have been supported to raise pigs. Many areas have introduced financial support measures to provide financial support for farmers to expand their farming scale. In addition, the price of live pigs continues to rise, and it is profitable for farmers to raise pigs. There is still some hope for pig breeding next year. Moreover, at present, it is in the rising stage of the pig cycle, and the pig production capacity is seriously insufficient. At this time, actively carrying out pig breeding can also catch up with a wave of profit margins.

2. On the negative side, the African swine fever epidemic still threatens the pig breeding industry, and it still occurs sporadically in some areas. The development of vaccines is still in the experimental process and has not yet formed a scale to put on the market. At the same time, the cost of raising pigs is increasing, not only the labor cost, the material cost, but also the price of pig seedlings. More importantly, while the price is rising, the quantity is still limited and the supply cannot be opened. In addition, the increase in pork prices in the past six months has led many consumers to turn to other meat products. The production capacity of live pigs will be restored next year, and the price of pigs may be lowered, especially in the second half of next year, and the price of pork may return to normal level, and the price of pigs will also fall simultaneously. This is not good for pig farmers.

Second, matters needing attention in raising pigs

1, correct seed selection

(1) Rural retail investors are suitable for free-range breeding of local pigs, and they are resistant to hunger, roughage, low nutrition, cold and heat, adapt to the local climate, and are not easy to get sick. Rice bran, wheat bran, rice soup, noodle soup, leftovers, weeds and wild vegetables are all good feeds for pigs.

(2) Large-scale pig raising is suitable for breeding hybrid pigs with strong disease resistance, fast growth, strong vitality, good feed conversion rate and high lean meat rate. There are two combinations of hybrid pigs. One is to cross with foreign lean pig breeds to produce Du Changyuan hybrid pigs. One is to use local pigs as female parents and foreign improved lean pigs as first and second male parents to produce long hybrid pigs.

2. Reproduction quantity

At the beginning, the number of pigs can be controlled at 30-40, and the scale can be gradually expanded later. It is suggested that the number of familiar pigs should be controlled at 50-80 to ensure the normal operation of the pig farm.

3. Breeding cost

Raising pigs is for profit, and the cost input should be controlled by the farmers themselves. The main direction of cost saving is feed. Most people buy feed produced by others, and the cost is high. Farmers can make their own feed, which can ensure nutrition and safety, and the cost is extremely low.

4. Disease prevention

For diseases that are prone to occur in different seasons, the common prevention methods are sanitation, regular disinfection and daily sanitation and cleaning of pigsty, paying more attention to the situation of pigs, checking abnormal pigs in time, clarifying the reasons and preventing the spread.
