Film evaluation

The Taoist Down the Mountain is not an excellent film. The gorgeous coat of the film is twisted and tangled with the author's own ideas, and finally presents a work with inflated ambitions and lost land. Except for Fan Wei's first story, which is relatively complete, the last two stories are very confusing, although they are very long, which confuses people who haven't read the original.

For example, the scene of He Anxia and Peng Qizi taking poison in the film is an original plot, which leads to the evil side of He Anxia, but this plot is very abrupt in the whole film.

If Fan Wei's story is still relaxed, it will enter an extremely chaotic and bloated stage in the later stage, and the ending is very similar to the original, which makes the narrative structure of the whole film change from "sugar-coated gourd" to "gourd".
