Minimally invasive liver transplant surgery with a wound of only 7.5 centimeters
Traditional liver transplantation surgery in order to remove the large liver completely, the wound is up to 30 centimeters or more; Yadong Hospital's medical team last March, for a father and daughter to carry out a "total laparoscopic right liver donation surgery", after more than 15 hours of surgery, while completing the donor liver and liver transplantation, the wound is only 7.5 centimeters. The father and daughter are now recovering well and their liver function is completely normal. According to Chen Guozhen, chief of general surgery at Yadong Hospital, the surgery was performed by a 22-year-old daughter who donated her liver to her 54-year-old father, who was suffering from liver cancer. The surgical team first obtained the donor's right liver through laparoscopy to perform a living liver transplant, which took more than six hours, and then performed the recipient's right liver transplantation surgery, which took more than nine hours. Chen pointed out that traditional liver transplant wounds can be as long as 30 centimeters, leaving either an oversized L shape or a trident symbol in the upper abdomen, while the minimally invasive approach of laparoscopy leaves only a 7.5-centimeter-long wound at the navel. Chen emphasized that minimally invasive hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries were highly complex in the past, but are now commonly used in liver and pancreatic cancer resections, as well as biliary tract surgeries. Currently, liver and pancreatic cancer surgeries no longer require large wounds, which not only dramatically shortens the patient's recovery time, but also reduces the number of related complications, and greatly improves the quality of medical care.
