What is an alternative energy project?

Alternative energy projects promote energy-saving technological transformation, reduce the consumption of fuelwood resources, protect the forest ecological environment, improve the living conditions of villagers and promote the harmonious development of rural areas by developing and utilizing renewable energy such as solar energy, biogas and micro hydropower. The work of this project in northwest Yunnan includes:

Renewable energy and energy efficiency improvement project in rural areas of northwest Yunnan. Since 2000, the Nature Conservancy of the United States has cooperated with local government departments and relevant institutions to carry out renewable energy and energy efficiency improvement (alternative energy) projects in four project areas in northwest Yunnan. Alternative energy technologies promoted by the association include energy-saving stoves, solar water heaters, biogas, micro-hydro generators and so on. By the end of 2006, the alternative energy project had helped to build or install more than 65,438+100,000 alternative energy facilities in northwest Yunnan. At the beginning of 2005, the alternative energy project in northwest Yunnan won one of the top ten cases of "China's sustainable development" jointly organized by Economic Observer and Shell Company.

Green rural credit project. Green rural credit project is a sub-project of China rural energy enterprise development project. China Rural Energy Enterprise Development Project is funded by the United Nations Foundation and undertaken by the United Nations Environment Programme. The project is dedicated to promoting alternative energy in Yunnan Province and its surrounding areas, including supporting the development of rural energy enterprises, supporting rural energy consumption credit and income-generating activities (green rural credit). The China Department of the Nature Conservancy of the United States is responsible for the organization and implementation of the green rural credit subproject in northwest Yunnan. The green rural credit project provides villagers with consumer loans and income-generating loans, in which the consumer loans are used to install or build alternative energy (renewable energy and high energy efficiency) facilities, and the income from income-generating activities is used to repay the loan principal and interest.

Clean indoor air cooperation project. In 2004, the alternative energy project was supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency, which combined the implementation of the alternative energy project with the reduction of indoor air pollution, and reduced the harm caused by indoor cooking and heating by popularizing reliable, clean, efficient and low-cost energy technology, thus achieving the dual purposes of protecting biodiversity and improving the health status of the communities benefiting from the project. The project mobilizes the resources and technologies of relevant partners and focuses on solving four problems: overcoming social and cultural barriers, market development, technology standardization and health impact monitoring. In 2007, the China Department of the Nature Conservancy of the United States and the Rural Energy Industry Association of China jointly hosted the "International Symposium on Indoor Air Quality, Alternative Energy and Improvement of Stove Technology" in Lijiang.
