What about archaeology?

Notes on Tomb Robbery in Mawangdui Han Tomb at Sanxingdui Site ...

Speaking of which, which major do you think of? Yes, it is "archaeology"! With the popularity of these movies and TV series, more and more people pay attention to the major of archaeology, and many people are interested in this major. What about this major? As a student majoring in history, I have also taken classes in archaeology at ordinary times, and there are also students from the department of archaeology around me. Next, let me talk about my opinion:

1. What does the archaeology major do? Archaeology majors train students to have the basic knowledge and methods of history, archaeology and museology, as well as the related knowledge of cultural relics, history and anthropology, and master the most basic identification and protection skills of jade and stone tools, bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy and painting. And can engage in cultural relics research and management in archaeological and historical research institutions, museums, schools at all levels, cultural relics management institutions, public security, customs and other departments.

Second, what about archaeology? Archaeology needs to learn a lot, such as historical literature knowledge, cultural anthropology, national archaeology, Xia, Shang and Zhou archaeology, Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties archaeology, drawing, surveying and mapping, excavation and so on. With the progress of science and technology, there is also archaeology of science and technology, which is like a subject where arts and sciences meet. Moreover, the archaeology major pays attention to the field archaeological practice, which is a very practical major. The following is the curriculum of archaeology major:

Third, employment prospects Archaeology is an unpopular major, but the employment prospects of students are not so bad. After graduation, students can engage in teaching or scientific research in universities or scientific research units, or they can go to museums, auction houses, cultural relics shops or customs to engage in cultural relics protection, antique appraisal and auction. Students in this major can engage in the following occupations after graduation:

Stay in school to teach and engage in archaeological teaching and research;

Enter museums, archaeological research institutes and other research institutions to engage in professional research;

Enter the media industry and engage in professions such as professional journalists and professional producers (such as journalists reporting new archaeological discoveries, protection of cultural relics and sites, or producers of columns such as Exploration and Discovery);

Enter the auction house and other art investment fields, and engage in cultural relics appraisal and evaluation;

Free man, engaged in art collection, appraisal, etc.

Fourthly, I personally feel that ancient studies is a highly specialized subject. If you start studying as an undergraduate, it will be difficult for you to change careers after graduation. Moreover, field archaeology needs long-term outdoor work and faces the problems of sun exposure and sunburn. Most archaeological sites are in sparsely populated suburbs. To endure loneliness, there is a popular saying in archaeology that "you can't eat bitterness, but you can't pass the exam". Therefore, choosing this major requires the love in the bones, rather than reading a few tomb notes to choose this major. The following are the photos taken by our archaeological practice class:
