It's boxwood. It's been seen for a hundred years. Boxwood carving is one of the traditional folk carving arts in Zhejiang. Boxwood is used as carving material, and the natural shape of boxwood with smooth, delicate texture and solemn color is used.
The earliest statue of "Li Tie Monster" from Yuan Dynasty to Zheng Zheng was kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, boxwood carving formed an independent manual art style, which was loved by people for its vivid modeling close to society and characterization with both form and spirit.
Most of its contents and themes show the characters in China folk myths and legends, such as the Eight Immortals, Shouxing, Guan Gong, Maitreya Buddha and Guanyin.
