Hainan traditional dwellings Qionghai dwellings

Qionghai is located in the eastern plain of Hainan Island, bordering the South China Sea and covering a vast area. Hainan has been a place with developed economy and culture since ancient times. Jiaji Town was a commercial port in Fu Jia during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to historical records, most of the ancestors of Qionghai residents came from Fujian. Therefore, Hainan culture is also a continuation of the Central Plains culture, which is reflected in the style and folk customs of folk houses. It certainly has something in common with the Central Plains, but due to the changes of the times, it has formed its own unique characteristics. Its living mode system is not only restricted by the culture of its time, but also meets the practical needs of life, and also shows the simplest aesthetic needs.

Qionghai folk house is not the only representative of Hainan traditional folk house, but it is the most common style of Hainan folk house. In the local village of Qionghai, folk houses are an external expression of family dignity. From the initial site selection to the later family life, folk houses are closely related to folk culture, and almost all of them incorporate their values and love for life.
