How many painting forms are there?

Painting is an art of depicting images with colors and lines. However, due to the differences in pigments, tools and painting methods, painting has formed many kinds of paintings, such as sketch, traditional Chinese painting, gouache, oil painting, watercolor painting and printmaking.

Sketch is a painting drawn in monochrome. Such as pencil drawing, charcoal drawing, pen drawing, monochrome watercolor and monochrome oil painting can also be counted as sketches. Sketch is the basis of all kinds of painting.

Watercolor, as its name implies, is a painting made of pigments with water as solvent and diluent. Because of the transparency, fluidity and wettability of water, watercolor painting can produce fresh, transparent, light, clean, moist and smooth artistic characteristics by making full use of the white color of drawing paper as the reflection of white light.

Strictly speaking, gouache belongs to the category of watercolor painting, because both of them are powered by water and have the same essence. If there is a difference, gouache is just an opaque watercolor. So it has the same coverage as oil painting, and it also has the expressive force and artistic effect of oil painting.

Oil painting is a painting made with oil as solvent and diluent. It is the most comprehensive painting, which can not only show the volume, space, light and texture of objects, but also depict the true degree of image form and spirit.

Chinese painting uses traditional tools and materials, such as China calligraphy, cigarette ink, rice paper, silk, inkstone tiles and pigments. It has a high degree of refining and generalization skills, which can fully reflect the national spirit, thus becoming a brilliant national painting art.

Mural painting is an ancient art form, which is usually painted on the walls of palaces, caves, temples, tombs and halls as decoration. Mural painting is the most important painting variety in early human history.

Comic is a humorous painting with humorous pictures. Comics generally highlight the content by means of metaphor, exaggeration and symbol, which is conducive to criticism, satire, or encouragement and publicity.
