Do Shaolin monks have martial arts?

I think Shaolin Temple has two identities, one is the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism, and the other is the source of martial arts in the world.

The ancestral court of Zen Buddhism, because the founder of Buddhism came to the Central Plains in the west, had an epiphany on this shore and started a Sect. There is no doubt about it. Buddhism is boundless, and different schools adapt to different believers. Zen pays attention to epiphany, less discipline, and the hard work of chanting Buddha every day. The reason is very mysterious, especially suitable for the intellectual class. Therefore, after it was handed down, it was better combined with China's traditional philosophy, which had a great psychological impact on later generations.

The saying that Shaolin monks are skilled in martial arts stems from the legend that thirteen stick monks in Shaolin Temple saved the Tang King. After reading the inscription on the Shaolin Temple in the temple, I didn't talk about saving the Tang King, but only said that the Shaolin Temple monks participated in the battle of Luoyang, and Wang performed well and commended them. It also embodies the United front intention of the Tang Dynasty to the religious circles.

Shaolin Wushu has become a big IP, and I think the credit goes to a movie and a writer. The film is Shaolin Temple, which is popular all over the country, and Jet Li became famous in one fell swoop. The author is Mr. Jin Yong, who turned Shaolin Temple from the ancestral home of Zen into the birthplace of martial arts and the largest sect in the world. Therefore, it is very appropriate for Shaolin Temple to put Jin Yong's inscription in a conspicuous position now.

But on closer examination, although Jin Yong's Shaolin Temple has a high status in the rivers and lakes, its performance is not so good. Especially in "Eternal Dragon Slayer", the Shaolin Temple monk bullied Zhang Sanfeng with a narrow mind, refused to save Zhang Wuji, was attacked by CoCo Lee, and relied on Zoroastrianism to save him. Besides, in Duke of Lushan, Wei Xiaobao shaved the hair of Shaolin Temple, which made the monks miserable.

Now, Shaolin Wushu has become an important tourism resource in Henan Province. There are many martial arts schools around Shaolin Temple, where a large number of young people practice martial arts.

My fantasy about China Wushu has vanished. I watched a martial arts performance at the gate of Shaolin Temple. Although the scene effect is very good, the broken steel plate on the top of the head, the spear head on the throat, the iron needle through the glass are close to acrobatics, and the performance of routine instruments is close to dance. Just watching the fun.

As for the monks in Shaolin Temple, they are broad-minded and fat, and they don't look like they can fly over the eaves and walk over the walls. It is better to walk slowly in the forest of steles, listen to a song "Pastoral" and relive childhood dreams.
