Overview of Yue Kiln Celadon

Yue Kiln is the most famous celadon kiln system in ancient China. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the earliest porcelain in China was successfully fired in the Long Kiln of Yue Kiln, so the celadon of Yue Kiln was called "mother porcelain". Yue kiln was fired for 1000 years, and it stopped firing at the end of Northern Song Dynasty and the beginning of Southern Song Dynasty. It is the longest-lasting and most influential kiln system in China.

In the Tang Dynasty, Lu Guimeng once praised celadon from Yue Kiln, saying that "the autumn wind in September opened Yue Kiln, and it won a thousand peaks and green colors". Literati in the Tang Dynasty like drinking tea. The glaze of Yue kiln celadon is moist as jade, and the green and yellowish color can perfectly contrast the green of tea soup. Therefore, Yue kiln celadon is deeply loved by scholars. At that time, the prevailing tea drinking fashion also influenced the shape of Yue kiln celadon. In the early Tang Dynasty, thin and tall vertical devices were the main objects, and lotus leaf-shaped and flower-shaped plates and bowls appeared in the late Tang Dynasty.

Porcelain decoration is mainly light elements, and there are also decorative patterns such as drawing, carving, stacking and hollowing out. Most of them are scratching flowers. Common decorative patterns include flowers and birds, aquatic plants and figures. The lines are smooth and concise, slender and vivid. The celadon of Yue kiln in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties is called "secret colored porcelain", and its glaze is blue, crystal clear and moist, as clear and green as calm lake water.
