Shaolin boxing is unpretentious, based on actual combat, and its sports characteristics are also distinct in attack and defense. The following are the characteristics of Shaolin boxing that I have compiled for you. Welcome to read!
Shaolin boxing is characterized by: making a line and hitting the place where cattle lie. Shaolin boxing has many routines, compact structure, short and pithy. During the drill, ups and downs, advance and retreat are mostly a line movement. Many Shaolin boxers believe that from the actual combat point of view, the real fight is only a few steps away, the straight line movement is the most effective, and there are differences between squares. This fully embodies the characteristics that Shaolin boxing is not limited by the size of the venue, and can display its boxing skills and power anytime and anywhere.
The characteristics of Shaolin boxing: swift and powerful. Shaolin Boxing requires firmness, strength, quickness and fierceness, that is, the so-called "starting with the barrage, hitting it with one blow" and "making thousands of moves, giving priority to speed". In the process of regular exercise, several or a dozen movements are required to be coherent, fast and in one go. Although Shaolin boxing is mainly rigid and soft, it also requires both rigidity and softness. "The former is just strong, and the latter is soft", moving like the wind and standing like a nail; As heavy as a mountain and as light as wool; Keep it like a virgin and commit it like a tiger; Quiet is waiting for work, while moving makes it have no room to breathe; And so on.

Shaolin Boxing is characterized by: bending but not bending, straight but not straight, rolling outside and rolling inside, full of elasticity. As far as techniques are concerned, Shaolin Boxing requires that both arms keep a certain radian, push hands with punches, kick and turn around and shake shoulders. "Roll with your body and roll with your hands", which is anti-rigid. At the moment of completing the action, according to the natural rebound force of the arm, the arm forms a bent and straight posture, which creates convenient conditions for continuing the attack and defense. Turn-out and turn-in are the scientific embodiment of attack and defense technology. Rotation can enhance the attack power, and tumbling is also conducive to dissolving the opponent's strength.
The Early Period of Shaolin Boxing's Historical Development
The origin of Shaolin Wushu can only be the folk Wushu in the north, especially in the Central Plains. At least in the Han Dynasty, the martial arts in the Central Plains have developed to a considerable level, and the art of guiding qi has accumulated rich experience. In addition, according to historical records, before Dharma, some temples in the north practiced martial arts, and some monks also fought against the government. All the monks in Shaolin Temple come from the people. Some of them will learn martial arts before entering the temple, and then learn from each other among monks after entering the temple. This enables them to widely absorb the essence of martial arts in the Buddhist and secular circles, constantly sum up experience and develop and create. According to historical records, as early as the Northern Qi Dynasty in 550-577 AD, a Zen master named Houji, who was famous for his martial arts, was born in the newly built Shaolin Temple. At the end of Sui Dynasty, thirteen monks from Shaolin Temple helped the Tang King defeat Wang, and Shaolin Wushu gradually became famous. In the Five Dynasties, Fu Ju, a monk of Shaolin Temple, invited eighteen Wulin masters to perform in the temple and practice for three years. Fuju learns from others' strengths, removes the rough and preserves the essence, and blends into Shaolin boxing spectrum. During the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, Jue Yuan, a monk of Shaolin Temple, became friends with Bai Yufeng, a famous martial arts teacher, and both returned to Shaolin, creating more than 70 novices. From Sui and Tang Dynasties to Jin and Yuan Dynasties, Shaolin Wushu developed rapidly and gradually matured. Shaolin Temple was famous for its martial arts in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, in A.D. 1522- 1566, Japanese pirates invaded the southeast coast, and more than 80 Shaolin monks, led by Yuekong and others, bravely went to the battlefield and repeatedly defeated the enemy's flames, and more than 30 people died for their country. According to the Records of A, B, C and D in Song Wu, Shaolin monks "all hold iron bars, which are seven feet long and weigh 30 kilograms. They are as convenient as bamboo sticks and heroic. Every time the officers and men are fighting, they are used as forwards. " At that time, there were three monasteries in China: Wutai, Daniu and Shaolin, but Shaolin was the only one who generously went to the disaster. In the 40th year of Jiajing (156 1), the anti-Japanese generals went to Shaolin Temple to give instructions on boxing and stick. Yu also selected two monks from Shaolin Temple, Pu Cong, and went south with the troops to personally teach martial arts, which lasted for more than three years. In the fifth year of Wanli (1577), the Sword Sutra given by Yu in the capital was not a sword book, but a stick technique. Based on the guidance and absorption of folk essence by famous artists, Shaolin stick technique was obviously improved in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. In the forty-fourth year of Wanli (16 16), Cheng Zongyou wrote a book, Explanations of Shaolin Clubbing Sect, which listed Shaolin Clubbing as one of the "true stories" of the clubbers. Later, Mao further put forward that "all skills belong to the stick and the stick belongs to Shaolin" in Wu Bei Zhi, and listed Shaolin stick as the first of all stick techniques for the first time. At this point, Shaolin cudgel has been recognized as authentic martial arts.
Late developmental stage
After Shaolin sticks became famous all over the world, Shaolin monks devoted themselves to the improvement of boxing. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, "monks in the temple attacked boxing more", because Shaolin boxing "has not yet prevailed in the sea, and now those who specialize in boxing want to board the other shore with the stick". At the same time, many literati lamented the improper state affairs, worried about foreign invasion, and consciously practiced martial arts in order to serve the country. At that time, the literati practiced martial arts. After the failure of armed resistance to the Qing dynasty, some people with lofty ideals were ashamed to braid their hair and become subjects of the new dynasty, so they went out to shave their heads and become monks. Not only do they have high cultural attainments, but some of them also have profound martial arts skills. They exchanged and integrated folk martial arts with primitive Shaolin martial arts, making Shaolin martial arts more and more exquisite.
After entering the Qing Dynasty, Wushu was still popular in the Central Plains. In the fifth year of Yongzheng (1727), the Qing court banned folk martial arts, but the monks in Shaolin Temple were still practicing martial arts in secret. The anti-Qing national consciousness of Shaolin Temple once attracted the attention of the Qing court, and Shaolin Wushu was widely spread among the people through secret societies. Temple Wushu, represented by Shaolin Temple, developed rapidly in this period, becoming a noticeable phenomenon in the history of China Wushu.
In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, Shaolin Wushu widely absorbed the essence of many boxing schools in the north, fused and refined it on the basis of martial arts in this temple, and formed a Shaolin boxing system with profound content and exquisite skills, which fully achieved the lofty status of authentic martial arts. Due to the exchange of martial arts between monks and Shu Ren, and the increasing popularity of Shaolin martial arts, some new schools in the north have also called Shaolin self-esteem. In this way, Shaolin Boxing actually covers almost all martial arts schools in northern China, and Shaolin Wushu has also become the floorboard of martial arts in northern China.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Shaolin Wushu gradually spread to the south, which had an important influence on the formation and development of Nanquan and Emei. The essence of Shaolin boxing is the combination of boxing and Zen. Shaolin Temple is the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism. The essence of Zen is to understand nature and realize enlightenment. In the eyes of Buddhists, meditation is the right way, and boxing and courage are the last skills. Monks can only achieve the goal of introversion and calmness by practicing martial arts, and at the same time, they can also achieve the effects of fitness, self-defense and temple protection. It is precisely because Zen does not attach too much importance to martial arts, but is based on meditation kung fu, which makes monks accustomed to practicing martial arts in a calm and carefree state. Coupled with the traditional advantages of temple martial arts, Shaolin monks in history often step into a higher realm of martial arts, which cannot but be attributed to the role of Zen to a considerable extent.
