Songyuan City is located in the middle and west of Jilin Province, at the southern end of Songnen Plain, beside the beautiful and rich Songhua River, with an area of 22,034 square kilometers. With a total population of 2.76 million, there are 3 ethnic groups including Han, Manchu, Mongolian, Hui and Korean.

At the beginning of last century, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary forerunner, envisaged to build a central city named "Dongzhen" at the intersection of Songnen and Nenjiang in his famous "General Plan for the Founding of the People's Republic of China". Now, Mr. Zhongshan's long-cherished wish has come true. 1June, 1992, with the approval of the State Council, Songyuan, a prefecture-level city, was established in a place called "Dongzhen" by Dr. Zhongshan. Songyuan City governs Fuyu County, Qianguoerluosi Mongolian Autonomous County, Changling County, Gan 'an County and ningjiang district.

Songyuan is rich in resources and products, and is known as "granary, meat warehouse, fish town and oil sea". At present, the proven oil reserves have reached 946 million tons, with an annual output of more than 4.5 million tons, natural gas reserves of 654.38+0.2 billion cubic meters, oil shale reserves of 32.6 billion cubic meters and silica sand reserves of 200 million tons. This is a national large-scale commodity grain base and oil base. The annual output of grain is about 4.5 million tons. It is rich in corn, sorghum, soybeans, rice, sunflowers and peanuts, which are exported to Korea, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and other countries. Here is a corner of Horqin grassland, with fertile natural pastures and aquatic plants. Grassland covers an area of 580,000 hectares with an annual output of 300,000 tons of grass. It is an important animal husbandry production base in Northeast China. There are many rivers and swamps here. There are three rivers, one river and one lake (Songhua River, Second Songhua River, Nenjiang River, Lalin River and Chagan Lake) in the territory, which is rich in water resources and provides unique conditions for the development of industry and fishery.

Songyuan has a long history and splendid culture. As far back as seven thousand years ago, there were people here. Gu Fuyu and Bohai Kingdom once staged magnificent historical dramas here. During the Song, Liao and Jin Dynasties, the heroic sons and daughters of the Jurchen nationality created brilliant achievements here. The Manchu and Mongolian cultures here complement each other. Songyuan is rich in tourism resources. There are many ancient sites, ancient tombs and other cultural relics here, as well as unique natural landscapes such as Chagan Lake, Sanjiangkou, Mud Forest and Grassland.

Songyuan has convenient transportation. Four railways, namely, Jingha, Qi Jing, Changbai and Tongrang, pass through the territory, forming a traffic network running through the east, west, north and south with provincial trunk lines such as Shen Ming, Jingha, Passenger Railway, Wu Hui and Changbai. In particular, the completion of the Changha Expressway with an investment of 870 million yuan and the Songyuan-Zhaoyuan Bridge under construction will make Songyuan an an an important transportation hub and logistics center connecting Harbin, Daqing, Changchun and Shenyang.

In March of 20021year, Songyuan City ranked 247th in the ranking list of comprehensive urban strength in China in 20021year.

In 20021123 and 2020, the ranking of China urban science and technology innovation and development index was released, and Songyuan ranked 267th.

In 200211year1October, the Central Civilization Office confirmed the list of cities nominated for national civilized cities in the founding period of 20021-2023, and Songyuan City was on the list.
