Application of microorganisms in pulping and papermaking

The raw material of papermaking is wood, and the first process of papermaking with wood as raw material is to peel the logs. At present, the peeling of logs is done in a peeling machine. In order to ensure the whiteness of pulp, the peeler must peel a large area, which will also lead to a certain degree of raw material loss, which is very unfavorable to pulp papermaking. In recent years, scientists have found that biological enzymes can effectively degrade the wood cambium, thus achieving the effect of peeling logs, and biological enzyme peeling can also reduce the energy consumption of the peeling machine.

The traditional chemical pulping is kraft pulping. This pulping method only removes 90% lignin from logs, and 10% lignin remains in logs, which also leads to dark yellow and brown paper made by chemical pulping. According to this weakness of traditional chemical pulping, we use microorganisms (fungi) or biological enzymes to treat raw materials in chemical pulping, which can not only improve the delignification rate of logs, but also effectively reduce the consumption of chemical supplies and the loss of raw materials, thus better improving the quality of pulp. For example, if white rot fungi in living organisms are used to treat papermaking raw materials and kraft pulping is adopted, the whiteness, elongation and bursting resistance of the pulp produced are obviously higher than those of ordinary chemical pulping, and the papermaking time can be shortened by half.
