Third, Huizhou folk houses
Constrained by the feudal patriarchal clan system and driven by the responsibility of honoring ancestors, Huizhou merchants who made a fortune brought a lot of wealth back to their hometowns and built exquisite houses around ancestral halls.
Although the exterior wall of the house is simple, the interior of the house is often extremely luxurious. Brick carvings, stone carvings and wood carvings are widely used. The Huizhou merchants' house with deep pockets covers a large area and has perfect internal facilities. It is also called the "Folk Forbidden City" by later generations.
