Why are young people keen on foreign festivals such as Halloween, but taboo traditional festivals such as Mid-Autumn Festival?

In the East, the 15th day of the seventh lunar month is the traditional ancestor worship festival in China. It is also called Ghost Festival. However, due to the cultural differences between China and the West, festivals with the same theme of "ghosts" have different forms and connotations: one is lively, the other is solemn, the other is sought after by young people, and the other is ignored by young people. Why are they all "Ghost Festival", but they are treated differently?

Although Halloween originated from "Ghost Festival", it was entertained before it was introduced to China. The trick-or-treating activity of pumpkin lantern is also quite interesting. In addition, people who rarely celebrate foreign festivals will deliberately look for the meaning behind the festival … customs and habits.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known as July 30th, is also called Stone Drum Festival, Ghost Festival, Lonely Festival or local official festival. It falls on July 14th/15th of the lunar calendar every year, and is called "Sanyuan Festival" together with Shangyuan Festival and Xiayuan Festival. There are folk customs of offering sacrifices to ancestors and dead souls, setting off river lanterns and burning paper ingots. Mid-Autumn Festival, New Year's Eve, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Double Ninth Festival are traditional festivals for ancestor worship in China. Mid-Autumn Festival belongs to intangible cultural heritage and is a cultural tradition of remembering ancestors.

What we really need to do is to pay attention to our traditional festivals, understand the cultural connotation behind them, and then bring the festivals and the China culture behind them to the world, let more people know and attract more people to participate.
