Before joining my current company, I only knew software engineering, PMBOK, CMMI, and had been working on projects, but didn't know what the products were about. 2008 was the year I joined the company, and only then did I start to come into contact with IPD, and it was because of the company's management change in 2010 that I had the opportunity to get closer to her. To this day, exactly ten years, she is still in the period of ignorance. I would like to take this opportunity to summarize a turn, with you to learn, re-understanding of the "IPD is what".

?IPD, called Integrated Product Development in English, is translated into Chinese as Integrated Product Development. Sometimes I wonder why it's not called IDP, Integrated Product Development, which integrates everyone in one place to develop a product, which would be easier to understand. In fact, I prefer to translate it as "愛 辟地", and I love to open up the sky and the earth. In any case, the core is the I P D three key words, down we will break it down, one by one to understand.

D, development, ground, development.

It's a piece of land with infinite possibilities waiting to be developed. What is development? On a day-to-day basis, our first impression may be that it is the development of software, hardware, and structures, which is a very narrow dimension. Development is an innovative activity, including technological innovation, product innovation, management innovation, business model innovation and so on. Why development? The purpose is to meet market and customer needs on the premise that the enterprise has a surplus (to achieve business goals). To put it in another dimension: if I don't have a profit, I won't plant the land. Businesses achieve their business goals by satisfying market and customer needs, and if they can't achieve their business goals, they don't think about satisfying customer needs. The scope of business objectives is also very large, there are profits, money is the most common, the ultimate business objectives, loss of money, first to occupy the high ground is also a kind of business objectives, purely to send favors, pulling the relationship is also regarded as a business objective. The boss said: first in the ground all planted incense seedlings, such as levy payout big money, this is also a business goal.

Summary: This is a piece of land to be developed (D), you need to bring the ideal to achieve business goals to plant crops to meet market and customer demand. There are two core ideas at the heart of this: 1) R&D is an investment, and 2) needs-based development.

?P, Product, Pin/Fart, Product.

This is what we hope to grow out of the ground, and if it looks good, I call it "product", taste, and if it looks bad, I call it "fart", nothing. In English, it is called Product. What is a product? It is the sum of all deliverables to meet all customer needs, including tangible and intangible parts. It is not a single individual, behind it is a "product package" concept, just for the sake of catchy, only called "product". What the industry calls product development is in fact product package development, which includes market development, technology development, production and service development (producible, manufacturable, acceptable, installable, maintainable development), and package development (especially sales kit development). As a simple example, I planted a "beauty melon" in this field, and the "beauty melon" is our product. The tangible part is the naturally visible melon, along with the promotional materials and slogans prepared to sell the melon (Eat the melon, your heart will be sweet and beautiful), and so on. Intangible part is to sell melons and the establishment of a series of services, such as home delivery, not sweet warranty (return and exchange), not beautiful compensation (double, it is necessary for you to hand over your heart, sunshine picture force evidence).

This is a land of infinite possibilities (D), leaders want to be able to produce something with a product (P), what to do?

First of all, you have to have "love", full of love, love to plow, care for the whole process, the ground may grow good things. "Love" is a noble intangible material, how to make it to the ground? Then you have to "P" as "my", as their own, their own things, you can not "love"? With the mentality of the owner, to cultivate the future, naturally become a "product". But just rely on "my" "love" is not enough, this is a collaborative society, more to rely on everyone's "love" in order to produce excellent "P ", there are markets, R & D, production, procurement, service, etc., which is the "integration". Integration (I) experts in various fields, everyone's ownership mentality (my, I), together with care (love, I) it, and then a number of effective tools, methods and processes integrated, to a number of core ideas (values) under the guidance of the high "product" naturally, the customer needs will be satisfied, the business objectives are water to the canal.

Summarize: this is "my" land, "integrated" everyone's "love" to cultivate, you can become a "product". "The first thing I want to say is that I'm not going to be able to do this. The core is to "integrate" "my" and "love". "I" is also the core of IPD, so it is at the top of the list. Only when the "I" is up can the "P" and "D" be successful. Why does "P" come second? This is the importance of strategy. If you decide to go in the wrong direction, no amount of "D" will be effective. Of course, put everyone "I" up, "P" also set down, if "D" is not done, it is also empty talk. The three are closely linked, inseparable, indispensable. Only "I" up, in order to plan the correct "P", but also to successfully "D" out of the correct "P", that is, the phrase "I" up, in order to plan the correct "P", but also to successfully "D" out of the correct "P". The only way to do this is to plan the right "P" and to successfully "D" the right "P", that is, to "do the right thing, do the right thing".

IPD is a planning and development management system driven by market and customer needs.
