Table Tennis Rules

The rules of table tennis are legal serve, return, change of serve side between sets, five-point change of side in the deciding set, and change of position in the deciding set.

1. Legal serve

Legal serve is one of the important rules in table tennis. During the serve, the ball should be placed on the palm of the hand that is not holding the racket, with the palm open and stretched flat. The ball shall be stationary, behind the end line of the serving side and above the level of the playing surface. The player shall throw the ball upward almost vertically with his hands without spinning the ball.

And cause the ball to rise not less than 16 centimeters after it leaves the palm of the hand not holding the racket. A legal serve also includes a serve in which the ball is thrown upward almost vertically with the hands, without spinning the ball, and so that the ball rises not less than 16 centimeters after it leaves the palm of the hand not holding the racket.

2. Returning the Ball

In table tennis, returning the ball means hitting the ball after it has touched the table surface of the opponent's side of the table. The purpose of this is to create pressure on the opponent and to increase the suspense and spectacle of the match. The return stroke can effectively control the speed and spin of the ball, causing problems for the opponent. At the same time, return strokes can also increase the interaction and cooperation between the two sides, forming a quick succession of strokes and increasing the fun of the game.

3. Change of serve between sets

The change of serve between sets refers to the fact that the serve can be changed according to the rules of the game. This kind of change can improve the receiving efficiency and tactical strategy of the server, so as to get better results in the match.

4. Five points in a tie-break to change sides

In a match, when both players reach a tie-break, the match will be suspended, and then both players need to start again. In a tie-break, every point scored is crucial, as only five points can be scored to achieve victory.

One is to keep the order of serves unchanged, with the opponent returning; the other is to swap the order of serves, i.e. what was the first serving team becomes the first receiving team, and what was the second serving team becomes the second receiving team.

5. Changing positions in the deciding game

The change of position in table tennis is that when one side scores the first 11 points in the game, the other side has to change its position. If the score is 5:1 or 5:3, after the exchange of positions, the original server becomes the receiver, the original receiver becomes the server, the serving side becomes the receiver and the other side receives the serve. If the score is 5:2 or 5:4, after exchanging positions, the original player becomes the partner who served first to receive the serve.
