Zhong Nanshan, who grew up in a medical family, was named after the hospital where he was born was located in the central hospital in the south of Zhongshan. He got good grades since he was a child. Influenced by his family and out of his own ideal, 1960 graduated from Beijing Medical College and taught there. After more than ten years, he focused on radiation medicine research, served as the first affiliated internal medicine resident of Guangzhou Medical College, and later rose to chief physician, deputy chief physician and lecturer. 1979 went to the Medical College of Edinburgh University and the University of London to study respiratory science. He returned to China two years later and served as an associate professor at Guangzhou Medical College. Later, he was promoted to the position of Dean and Party Secretary of Guangzhou Medical College, and worked hard in respiratory department. He is also a professor of respiratory science in Peking University Health Science Center, training doctoral students in this field. 1995 was sent to visit McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Since then, he has been working hard and constantly trying and innovating in the field of respiratory medicine. The outbreak of SARS in 2003 gave full play to the research achievements of Academician Zhong Nanshan. After long-term efforts by him and other medical workers, the serious illness was finally repelled.
