Normal planting refers to planting in soil. Compared with soil cultivation, hydroponics has several advantages and disadvantages.

From the perspective of food safety, hydroponics is usually carried out under good conditions, and it is safer than traditional crops without using unpopular herbicides and other harmful substances. In addition, even if the nutrient solution used in hydroponics is polluted in harsh environment, the growth environment can be easily changed by replacing fresh and clean solution. In contrast, in traditional agriculture, it takes a long time to recover. If the soil is polluted by nuclear or dioxin-like toxins, it will take several years or even impossible to recover. Although hydroponics also has microbial problems, compared with traditional soil farming, it has fewer troubles and accidents and is easier to control. Moreover, the growth environment of soilless culture is often controllable, generally indoors, and crops and vegetables are less susceptible to insect pests, so naturally there is no need to apply pesticides, thus increasing the yield.

Advantages:

1, due to soil pollution. At present, the point pollution of heavy metals in cultivated soil in China has exceeded 19% (data from the Ministry of Land and Resources). At the same time, many non-degradable pesticides have been used in traditional soil cultivation for decades, which has also caused soil pollution.

2. No herbicides. All hydroponic vegetables grow at the opening of the foam board, and there is no room for weeds to grow, so customers are relieved of the concern of using herbicides. Growers also saved the cost of herbicides.

3. Rapid growth. The roots of hydroponic vegetables float in the water and have no growth resistance. The root system is developed, the ability to absorb nutrients is strong, and the growth rate of crops exceeds that of soil cultivation.

4, the pressure of pests and diseases is small. Soil is a hotbed of diseases and insect pests. Without soil, the stress of crop diseases and insect pests is small, and the dosage of pesticides is reduced.

5. Save labor. Without soil, there is no need to turn over soil, fertilize and water.

Disadvantages:

1, with large initial investment. Hydroponics depends on infrastructure, unlike soil culture, which can be achieved by digging a pit. Need to build hydroponic facilities.

2. High power consumption. Hydroponics requires circulating nutrient solution, and some hydroponics methods, such as fish and vegetables, need to be fully oxygenated. Both consume electricity.

3. The ambient humidity is very high. Hydroponics are all in greenhouses, with large water bodies, large evaporation and humid greenhouses. It is easy to produce hygrophilic bacterial diseases.

4. High cost and difficult sales. The cost and price of hydroponic vegetables are higher than those of local vegetables. Traditional nutrient solution hydroponics is to mix various fertilizers in water. Consumers have no extra affection for this kind of fertilizer vegetables that grow in water, and the price is higher than that of locally cultivated vegetables, so it is difficult to sell them.

At present, there has been an organic nutrient solution cultivation model for fish and vegetables in China, which is worthy of attention and exploration.
